Ali this is neither pointless or speculation.

What evidence?

Serif/Canva are not revealing anything at this point, so all anyone can do is wait and see.

I am saying nothing until the 30th but trust me on this one!

I have no good reason to trust you, so no, I won't - sorry.

My best guess would be a hybrid approach to pricing - a mixed economy.

But do you have any reason not to trust them?
Do you always look on the negative?

I would agree with (hope for) that.   A stand-alone perpetual V3 and a web based subscription as per the "normal" Canva model.

Where and when did I say that I did not trust Serif?

JAmedia wrote:

No, never. I have been completely positive about the future of Affinity, so much so that I received much criticism and much name-calling on the now read-only Affinity Forums. I'm a glass half full kinda gal!

JAmedia wrote:

No problem - we all judge each other. We assess each other and decide to what extent we trust each other. When someone tells me they know something, but are not willing to show me any proof, I tend not to trust them. Nothing personal, just common sense.

It does not matter - The trust me was more rhetorical

I know what I know and believe me it is more than what you know

Let's just leave it at that.

Whether anyone trusts or distrusts anyone on this matter is entirely irrelevant and to argue about it is pointless and idiotic! To quote the greatest President money can buy, "We'll see what happens."

Re: Affinity is joining the Canva family

Canva started recruiting contributors in 2014, looking for photographs.  As far as I can tell the key person is Melanie Perkins (CEO today, apparently).  So, in a little more than 10 years she and her crew turned Canva into a serious competitor reputedly worth more than $1B.

I expect she’ll quickly bend Affinity to her purpose, and if a Subscription model serves the purposes of the 3 founders, I would not expect them to be slow.

We’re getting to show and tell time.

Alright.

4) They keep focussing on pro features and a designer online who is helping them says ipretty convincing in a video (although clearly made with permissiong/cooperation of Canva) 'they really listened', while talking about pro features (and says that our minds will pop when we'll see it... so although that's still marketing talk to me, those are also big words making it risky if they don't have at least something good)

Do you have a link to this video?

Your points sound promising.

Re: Affinity is joining the Canva family

3) Their personel keeps calling it Affinity in communication here and there. So I would be surprised if the name Affinity would vanish

It would make sense keeping the name somehow; there are a lot of positive articles, reviews, and word of mouth found with any fast Google search. This is just pure golden rules in marketing; I wouldn't throw that away (but you never know). It's a very strong presence, which means everything in SEO. And mostly, that the brand and product names are well considered and have good prestige, unlike with other companies and products.

Browser-based wouldn't be that great for professional work for heavy raster files for print, RAW processing, etc. For UI/UX prototyping? Sure, Figma is total proof that such kind of browser based design app works well for professional teams. But as long as it's that, UI/UX, low fi graphics.

I don't think they can discard desktop without discarding the pro world, honestly...

I haven't searched for the original original video, but had watched this video via a talk in the youtube comments under another video and it looks and sounds legit to me:

Thanks so much for sharing the link! This definitely puts a different, more encouraging spin on the situation compared to the tortuous uncertainty of waiting and speculating.

They really want us to know that they 'really listened' and nobody asked for that. Also serious professionals don't want potentionally unsafe tools where your work is stored somewhere else / copyright and privacy issues / unstable internet / services offline etc.. Preferrably even working without any connection needed. So I don't believe they would go that way. If anything than optionally extra.

All of this makes sense. Fingers of both hands crossed while hoping for a wow announcement on the 30th.

Ok, I'll just say this: I can neither confirm nor deny how NDAs signed with Serif work and, as you just said, let's just leave it at that, so… Are you on the same boat? wink

In the same boat, or merely on the same page? https://punster.me/images/unsure.gif
