Thanks Paul.  Looks complicated and dangerous!   I eat my bananas raw.

It looks complicated but not particularly dangerous to me! However, I also eat my bananas raw: I don’t remember when I last had a cooked one.

Where in particular in NZ, Geoff? Given that New Zealand is long and thin, I would expect it to make quite a difference.

The Antipode of London, United Kingdom, is Waitangi, Chatham Islands, New Zealand.

If people want to get up, go to bed, start work, eat dinner at a different time summer or winter, what is stopping them?

Many employees have flexible working hours nowadays, but that’s clearly not an option for any occupations governed by timetables (e.g. teaching or train driving).

Going OT - have you ever noticed how much magnetic north differs from true north.  Apparently the difference varies around the world.  It's approximately 20 degrees difference here.

The difference varies not only around the world but also over time. At Greenwich in early September 2019 the declination (the angle between true north and magnetic north) was zero for the first time in about 360 years.

So it does! Changing the clocks must have been the real 1000th topic. I wonder why it was so slow to update.

Hmm, I based that on seeing

Total number of topics: 999

at the bottom of the home page before I created this topic, but (at the time of writing) that number hasn’t changed.

This is topic number 1000. Just sayin’!

In this post Eric mentioned that in New Zealand it’s now late winter coming into spring.

New Zealand is currently on New Zealand Standard Time (NZST), which is UTC +12. It will switch to New Zealand Daylight Time (NZDT), which is UTC +13, on 28 September 2025.

The United Kingdom is currently on British Summer Time (BST), which is UTC +1. It will switch to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), which is UTC +0, on 26 October 2025.

The east coasts of the United States and Canada are currently on Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), which is UTC -4. They will switch to Eastern Standard Time (EST), which is UTC -5, on 2 November 2025.

The west coasts of the United States and Canada are currently on Pacific Daylight Time (PDT), which is UTC -7. They will switch to Pacific Standard Time (PST), which is UTC -8, on 2 November 2025.

And I’m still here! It’s late summer coming into autumn.

Again via the Tools menu, go to ‘Site Manager > Resource Manager…’ and change individual settings in the Placement column. If you put ticks in the checkboxes next to the entries in the Name column, you can use the control at the bottom of the Placement column to change the linked/embedded status of all the selected items in one fell swoop.

Can you ’Post reply’ and attach a screenshot?

Choose ‘Options…’ from the Tools menu and then click on ‘Graphics’ in the Options dialog that pops up. The ‘General’ pane in that section has three options, the first of which is set to embed pictures by default if smaller than 256 KB.

Hi, I have just recently had trouble with my audio reception after edits.

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘reception’ in this context.

When I first set up my film and test it, and then discover I have to edit the audio on a separate machine, and then insert it into the film, no sound plays. Yet, looking at the soundtrack, it has the sound on it, but the actual sound does not play. This is something new to me, and I wondered if anyone has an answer to this problem?

Check that you haven’t inadvertently muted the audio track(s).

Although they’re PNG rather than JPG, the static images on that page are 25 KB or less. The animated GIF is a whopping 2.2 MB, which is likely to be considerably more than your ‘Embed if smaller than’ setting (even if you’ve increased it significantly from the installation default).

Welcome, Anthony! Thanks for joining my merry little band.

There is, perhaps unsurprisingly, only one Universal Registration Key, since by definition that’s all we need. Choose the ‘Registration Wizard’ option from the Help menu within any of the legacy ‘Plus’ applications and enter

in the box to protect yourself against ever being nagged to go through the useless registration procedure.

I did say that I suspected it may have something to do with switching to HTML5. If you want to publish searchable text from X7, I think you just have to create new frames and then copy and paste the text into them. That would mean moving lines of text around manually, but I can’t see any other way to do it.

I remember wondering why the flowing text feature was removed, given that it’s only relevant at design time (regardless of whether the output is HTML4.01 or HTML5).

So it’s editable text within the program but it’s saved as an image when you publish? If that’s the case, you must be (perhaps implicitly rather than explicitly) telling WebPlus to do something to the text that precludes its being published as text.

If the upload process is giving you images, that must be what you pasted.

Not having used WPX7 in a very long time, I thought I’d better take a look at its text handling. I couldn’t see a way of linking frames, and I suspect that may have something to do with switching to HTML5.

I’m using Windows 10 Pro, version 22H2. By default, Statcounter is blocked by Ghostery when I visit your site in the latest version of Firefox, but I’m not getting any security popups as such.

So now I want to link the five frames as continuous flowing text again - but I can't seem to find how it's done.

HTML doesn’t offer a means of specifying flowing text, so any text flow between frames will only happen within WebPlus. What kind of text objects have you used in your project?

I was just going to show my daughter the site I had been playing with and every browser for the url I posted is throwing up all sorts of security and unsafe site warnings. Is that what everyone else is seeing? All is well on my own computer.

I’m not seeing any security warnings in Firefox or Safari on iPad.

P.S. Your miniature bears look amazing!
