Let's have a lively discussion.

About what?

About whatever and let's see where it leads.

Hard to say one way or the other.

This was about three years before the first microprocessor, the Intel 4004, a 4-bit device, was introduced.

I remember, around 1979, two older electronic technicians having a grumble.

One said something like that he had been to a shop to get an electronics magazine, but it's all (disgust in voice) software in them these days.

No, Albert, the genteel expression is that a lot of water has flowed under the bridge.

The thread

has got me thinking.

It is interesting that all three posters thus far in that thread remember that song.

It was fifty-four years ago.

The year of paisley patterns on shirts, small motifs of flowers and the like on men's shirts in mainstream outlets - a style that did not last - back to dreary plain white and plain blue and sometimes thin stripes as the only concession to anything with style.

Oh and the flared trousers.

Around that time I sent for a brochure of made-to-measure shirts by mail order and it was all dreary fabrics for men - lots of colourful striped fabrics for women. I wonder what would have been the reaction if I had enquired if I could have a man's shirt in one of those colourful fabrics.

Thanks, Albert.

So when she performed as shown in that video she was 24.

I remember the song, but only the chorus, because the verses in the video were a surprise to me.

I suppose that the four backing singers are elderly ladies now, hopefully still alive, and hopefully happy.

The definition of the word locsenology can now be found by searching on Google.

A link to a wikipedia page about Royal Maundy.

Well, they do some years now. There was a time when it was always done, every year.

William

I often think that a touchstone of the decline of British Society is that one year the BBC stopped doing a live outside broadcast of the Maundy Thursday coin distribution service every year.

This used to be done wherever the service took place, then they stopped doing it.

I have found this template to be good if one wants to use a square picture from Bing Chat AI and get all the detail up to the edge of the picture.

https://www.papier.com/customise/you-me-15189

One gets the whole picture with a white border.

Alternatively, the full field template is good for a square picture if one is willing to lose some of the detail at the edge to being cut off as being in a bleed area.

I have now emailed postmaster@microsoft.com and hope that the email will get forwarded to someone who can fix it.

William

How can I email a human at Microsoft please?

My computer crashed.

I am using a Windows 10 machine that I bought as a backup in case of a crash. I bought it years ago when Currys had it at a greatly reduced price. It is a 10 inch screen like the machine I used years ago.

Alas, somehow or other it has me down as born in 2023.

I want to get that changed.

William

Thank you.

William

Thank you.

But I am not wanting to link to a phone.

For example, whereas I can send an email to john@example.com I want to be able to use my BT webmail to send a message to mobile telephone number 07 whatever and the owner of that mobile phone receive it as if it is an ordinary text message send from a mobile phone.

William

Some say they are natural rock formations.

Can I use BT webmail to send a text message to someone's mobile phone please?

If so, how please?

I have the number of the mobile phone but for various me-specific reasons that may well not apply to other people I cannot reply by sending a text message from my mobile phone

[The prompt to the AI system]

Please write a poem in the style of Thomas Tusser explaining why in the United Kingdom that the calendar year starts on 1 January but the financial year starts on 6 April.

[The response of the AI system]

Certainly! Here's a poem inspired by Thomas Tusser's style, blending practical wisdom with a touch of rhyme:

"Why Dates Divide Their Course"

January calls, the New Year’s birth, To mark fresh starts upon the earth. A calendar shared by all mankind, From icy peaks to summers kind.

Yet April’s breeze the ledger steers, For taxes, sums, and fiscal years. ’Twas Julian clocks, their time awry, That shifted dates beneath the sky.

The year adjusted, eleven days, The sun restored to springtime’s gaze. Thus 6 April claimed its reign, For counting coins and fiscal gain.

The fields may rest, the books must toil, To reap the fruits of honest soil. Though split in twain by time’s old plow, Both guide the land, then and now.

This poetic explanation touches upon the historic calendar reforms that led to the UK’s choice of 6 April for the financial year. What do you think of this rhyme?

What historical events influenced these date choices? How do these dates affect businesses and individuals?Do other count

[My response]

It is very good, thank you.

[The AI system replied]

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, William! It was a pleasure crafting a verse with a touch of historical storytelling. If there’s anything else you'd like to explore—be it artistic, poetic, or otherwise—I’m here and ready. Where shall we venture next?
