Have you compared the Sunday 6 Feb cartoon on the Bizarro site with that on the King Features site?

Portrait vs. letterbox.

But not Saturday - same aspect ratio.

No, I hadn’t compared them. An interesting observation, and I’m curious as to how/why that came about.

Just last week, a report by the Commons Transport Committee found that taxpayers face an eye-watering £35 billion bill to plug the gap created by the switch to electric cars. At present, owners of such cars pay neither fuel duty, which nets £28 billion every year, nor vehicle exercise duty, which brings in £7 billion. The revenue is spent on schools, hospitals and other priorities such as the police, as well as fixing roads.

There have been reports that food prices are about to rise by 5%.
This has been reported as that the cost of a person's weekly shop will rise by 5%.
Yet does that follow?

Clearly a rhetorical question, but it’s hard to disagree with the implied negative answer! The amount by which the overall cost of the contents of your shopping trolley increases will also depend on the price fluctuation that applies to non-food items.

Did a few tests. Looks as if:
(1) The tool bar bulleted list icon does intend to produce a list - it generates a code of the form:
{list}{/list} This is based on the expanded  code table, which also  has {ol} and {ul} forms.
(2) From other items in the expanded code table, {*}{/*} identifies each line in a list generated by the {list} form.

Since writing that, which is still true, I found , further, the  page https://www.bbcode.org/examples/?id=12

Thanks for the info, Jack!

Question: Does your forum host provide a limited set of BBCodes, or did you choose the current selection.

The set of supported BBCodes is determined by the forum software (perhaps as amended by extensions, where applicable).

Thanks, Eric.

Alfred, are you able to move posts?

Yes, all done. You can now find the discussion here.

I got a little sidetracked while trying to retrace my steps to the Bizarro Archives, and the result was this serendipitous find:

What was your source for the cartoon? I go to Arcamax, but the drawing is not as sharp as your upload.

Go to the Cartoons (Bizarro Archives) page, where the introductory paragraph says:

If you’re looking for the Daily Comic or a specific cartoon, try the Bizarro page hosted by my syndicate, King Features.

BTW, what is the function of the code bracketed asterisks - I show them using {}
{*}XYZ{?*}

I believe from reading the BBCode help link  they are used to generate a bulleted list. However, trying an example, even lifting the one from the BBCode help link, causes a page "crash"

It looks as if it is the list code which causes the crash. The asterisk code doesn't seem to do anything. Obviously it should, but what? Perhaps it would if the list code worked

[*]item1[/*][*]item2[/*]

Bulleted lists don’t seem to work for me, either. sad

Alfred, now the  way we enter and view the material in posts has settled, somewhat, I would like  the  addition of "Undo/redo last entry" as  arrows on the tool bar.

I know they are available as keyboard shortcuts, but I like them on the toolbar.

I haven’t looked into the technicalities of writing or editing the code for forum extensions, Jack, but if it’s easily doable I would be happy to add the feature that you’ve requested.

I have been in many places, but I've never been in Cahoots.  Apparently, you can't go alone. You have to be in Cahoots with someone.
I've also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there.
I have, however, been in Sane. They don't have an airport; you have to be driven there.  I have made several trips there, thanks to my friends, my colleagues, and my kids.
I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump,  and I'm not too much on physical activity anymore.
I have also been in Doubt.  That is a sad place to go, and I try not to visit there too often.
I've been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm.
Sometimes I'm in Capable, and I go there more often as I'm getting older.
One of my favorite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart! At my  age I need all the stimuli I can get!
I may have been in Continent, and I don't remember what country I was in. It's an age thing.

I only found it after spotting the O2 (the latter being one that I often have trouble finding). For anyone else who wants to have a go, here’s the rather clearer original image:

Alfred, todays Bizarro has 13 objects, of which I can find 12. The one that logic tells me ought to be there, but which I can't find, is the eye.

If you can be bothered, can you see all 13, or at least the eye?

I’ve only just started looking, but I’ll let you know if I find it!

Using your favourite search engine to look for something like Bizarro dynamite pie should unearth the following page:

I have found the following.

I have not read or understood it all yet, but I include the link as it may be that the barcode on the stamps is a particular application of a barcode type that is defined in an international standard.

Wlliam

The Mailmark definition document that I linked to earlier refers to “Data Matrix type ECC200 as defined in ISO/IEC 16022”.

Looking at

is that a type 29 barcode or a new format?

William

It fits the spec for Type 29 (16 x 48 modules). What makes you wonder whether it might be a new format? https://punster.me/images/unsure.gif

Nicely done Gordon.

I think that it would have been better had you made another post rather than editing your last post. Reason being that it does not show up on the index page that an edit has been made, whereas a new post will have done so. I am guessing that not too many people click on a thread that they have already read.

What he said, in all particulars!

Never mind. These posts will bring the link to the attention of other members.

Thank you, William. I’m glad you like it.

Did you design the logo or did it come with the forum facility?

Neither! It’s a Gravatar or ‘globally recognized avatar’: this one, in your case.

Here’s another one, simply derived from your first name (and therefore not specific to you):

No, your avatar/logo wasn’t there before. I’ve been experimenting.

If you want a different one in the same style, that is easily arranged. If you want to use your CommunityPlus avatar here, that’s easily arranged, too!
