Another video of gardens, this time we did not venture out of our own county of Essex. https://youtu.be/tvjPKNjPT-A

Mark Hall Estate was glorious, bathed in sunshine for the most part. There was the normal mixture of lakes and geese, a walled garden, which was quite impressive. The final bit of our visit was a place which gloried under the name of "Gondwaland". It was really fascinating seeing a lot of exotic types of trees and shrubs. For those of you unfamiliar with the word, here is the wikipedia page which will explain everything!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gondwana

EDIT. Just gone back to the wiki page and it has multiple issues.

This is a video of Leonardslee Gardens, a place we visited a month or so back. It's quite a long piece, almost 18 minutes in length. The reason I'm posting it is because of the effects it uses, the link starts around two minutes in. https://youtu.be/XrZEctEeRuA?t=111

I guess that it is achieved by using some kind of fish-eye lens, it's quite effective, almost like using a kaleidoscope. The effect is repeated a few minutes later.

What do you think of it?

Thanks Eric, I enjoy your 'out and about' videos.

Is it my imagination, but the sound quality on your voice over seems to be different somehow, not quite so mellow as usual, anybody else notice it, or is it just me?

I'm with you William when it comes to the flashing lights. Personally I don't mind them, but my wife finds them very disturbing, and like you chooses to look the other way.

What a great night for the UK though, apparently the best we have done for 20 years.

I have to say that the three presenters were pretty awful, probably because the scripts they were given were just so cringe worthy, I felt quite embarrassed for them, and the pauses they were taking at the end were just completely unnecessary and frustrating.

On Sunday night I will try and film another group in a crowded bar on the beach opposite our abode that has a singer who is English who also can also sing opera, however it might be a bit of a struggle to make a decent video as it does get crowded so I will see what I can do !

Looking forward to watching your efforts Gordon - best of luck with it.

In complete contrast, here is another garden that we managed to visit last Tuesday called Borde Hill, again situated in West Sussex. No animals this time, just the odd robin scavenging for crumbs from our yummy yummy cakes!!

Hope you enjoy it. https://youtu.be/B8r_YppjGps

That was brilliant Gordon, I could have "put up with it" for another hour at least, in fact I feel a little short changed!!

The locals appear to be having a great time, and they were not all teenagers either, the average age must have been around 40 years or so?

I liked the way you managed to go between the band and the dancers so very smoothly without a 'jerk or a wobble', you either have very steady hands or you had a bit of help with the equipment you were using.

As Richard Osman would say, "very nicely done".

It's the first time we had been Gordon, I can't even remember where I had heard about it, I think it may have been a video on You Tube but I cannot be sure. Glad you and Eric enjoyed it, I wonder what it's like other times of the year. I know we didn't see it all, for example, we didn't see the deer park or the rockery garden.  Well worth a return visit.

I've all but given up on this joke thread, far too complex for me I'm afraid.

Our aforementioned 'fun day out' took place last Friday. We made another first time visit, this time to West Sussex, a place called Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens.
It was one of the most colourful  places we have ever been to. As you go through the entrance a wall of colour hits you hard and you start to think if my newly formatted 64Gb card will be enough to capture the sheer magnificence of the place!!
There were a lot of sculptures around which young William may find interesting, and I have tried to give a bit of information about some of them in the video.
We also watched the wallabies hopping around - who would have thought that you could see wallabies in an English garden, well, not me anyway!! The video is just shy of 12 minutes long. https://youtu.be/pdUinn015RQ
I include a picture of the guide to the "sculpture Park", for more information.

Thanks for posting Eric.
So much easier videoing trees and bluebells etc, they tend to be rooted to the spot, on the other hand those pigs didn't move that much either did they!
Hoping for another fun day out tomorrow weather permitting. According to the website, they also have livestock around, so it should be interesting...

At last we have managed to visit Hole Park, as recommended to me by Gordon. I have to say that we were both very impressed with it and spent quite a few hours wandering round, taking pictures and video. Thank you so much Gordon, we would never have heard about it, not being on our radar, so to speak. https://youtu.be/dApuxDa6a7w The bluebells and wild garlic were spectacular. Hope you enjoy my efforts.

Me too Eric.
It does not seem to bother the main opposition parties in Westminster though. They are more preoccupied with attempting to oust our Prime Minister from office for his part in the so called "partygate"  scandal.

Rather than trying to get rid of psycho President Putin and bringing an end to the atrocities in Ukraine, they must think it's far more important to have a change of leadership in Britain for the PM's heinous crimes of enjoying his birthday cake and maybe a shandy or two. How can you even begin to compare the two crimes. Putin is responsible for tens of thousands of deaths and Boris is responsible for spilling a few crumbs of birthday cake down his front - shocking...

Ok so the answer to this is probably a no no.  I would like to reinstall the software on my new PC but sadly I understand the codecs needed are not now available.  Is there any way I could unlock the codecs and use the program.  Cheers Vicki

Actually Vicki the answer is a yes yes!!

Assuming that you still have a working copy of X6 on your old computer, all you need to do is to export the codes onto a USB stic and import them onto your new computer.

How to export your codecs from a working copy of MVPX6 and import them into your new computer:-

Run MVPX6 and click on "Tools" and then select "Options"
From the left hand pane select "Advanced", then click on "Manage Unlock Codes"
From the bottom left of the next window click on "Export", choose a destination for your codes and give them a file name.
You will then get a window with the message "Unlock codes exported", click OK. Copy/paste to a USB stick. Put the USB stick into your new computer.
Run MVPX6 on your new computer and repeat step 2.
This time click on "Import" and navigate to your exported unlock codes on your USB stick.

Job done!!

Some very nice pictures there Gordon, I particularly liked the bluebells and wild garlic together towards the end of the show, they make a wonderful combo, reminded me of the ones at Emmetts garden in Kent a few years ago.

Thanks for the explanation Alfred , I must have been away when they did  ‘factorial’ functions at school, have to be careful how I use exclamation marks now so as not to be misunderstood...

You can change the time to BST in your settings Jack, just tick the appropriate box.

While we are on about jokes that need explaining. Can you explain to me the one about the strawberries in a bottle, it says 22! on the bottle, but the punchline says how did they find well over a million?

Thanks Jack, I don't know why, but it's a good example of how my mind works, or perhaps, fails to work!!
In your explanation, your very first sentence was, "Let the value of a property y depend on the value of another property x. My mind automatically though that the word "property" meant some building like a house for example, and if one house looked really bad, it would devalue the other house. It was only when I re-read it that I realised that it meant something else.

I cannot help feeling a tad responsible for this thread going ever so slightly off topic Jack. If it was not for me trying to set a conundrum then this thread would still be about some interesting stuff on emojis.

At least I have a little more understanding of the way calculus works, as they say, "education is never wasted"

Castle Combe does ring a bell Gordon, and looking at a few pictures of it on the internet it does look a little familiar. Again it's in Wiltshire and not a million mile from Lacock. Next time we visit Richard I will mention it to him and maybe he can take us there.

This site looks like a good read, and has some very nice pictures of the place. https://www.baldhiker.com/2020/05/26/ca … e-village/

Thank you William.

I am slowly working my way through your very detailed explanation. I am finding that I am having to read each section multiple times in order to understand the concept. For example, I am assuming that the 'd' in dx/dy stands for differentiation, a term which I had forgotten but you have reminded me about.

I will carry on and attempt to understand it all, I feel sure that this kind of thing has a use, otherwise why would anybody 'invent' such a thing as differentiation in the first place, but am struggling at the moment, to understand what it is.

Thanks again.

I have just opened it William, you were referring to the "are you a Robot" round, and the symbol looks like an elongate "f". I can remember it being used in our maths lessons at school. The teacher wrote the symbol on the board and reffered to it as "the function of f" dy by dx was a phrase that stuck with me. I have no idea what it means.

As a mathematician yourself, perhaps you could explain it to me...
