Welcome, Chris!
You should be able to type as much as you like, within reason. Pressing the Return key shouldn’t post what you’ve typed so far unless you put the focus on the ‘Submit reply’ button.
What kind of device are you posting from?
Amazing and amusing! Thanks, Jack.

Or to give it its full name, Digital Equipment Corporation.
jackneve wrote:The DEC provided tapes were folded in (maybe 8inch) intervals rather than rolled. When read, they naturally re-folded themselves.
I’d forgotten those folded paper tapes! Come to think of it, though, it’s probably about forty years since I last saw one.
The installation where I saw a PDP-8 had a PDP-15 and similar model (i.e. also newer than the PDP-8). The newer machines used magnetic tape for storage, but they still had a bootstrap loader on paper tape.
Happy Shavuot, Jack.
jackneve wrote:If Easter coincides with the Passover (Pesach), then there is synchronism in these dates, but this is not always the case.
They rarely do coincide, of course. This year they were only a day apart (Pesach on 16th April, Easter on 17th April) but last year they were several days adrift (Pesach on 28th March, Easter on 4th April). In 2016, Easter Sunday was 27th March but Pesach didn’t begin until 23rd April, presumably because the Hebrew calendar had an intercalary month added to it.
tomH wrote:Alfred, I did neglect to tick that box, but I uninstalled the program using Revo Uninstaller, taking care to remove all traces of PPx9. To the best of my knowledge that ensured a clean re-install of PPx9.
That certainly should have done the needful, so it’s a bit of a mystery! However, if X6 does everything you want then there’s obviously no point in worrying about X9.

Resetting it certainly should have fixed the issue, Tom! Did you perhaps neglect to put a tick in the ‘Also delete local settings files’ checkbox?
Branch manager and assistant branch manager:

I suspect you’ll find that the results vary according to the default search engine for the browser that you’re using. I generally use DuckDuckGo, but if I do a Google search (either directly or via a DuckDuckGo bang command) the information may be presented differently. Try something like
in your default browser.
jackneve wrote:Alfred, could you please put a link to this in the maths group.
Of course I could, Jack, but since it’s your topic you might like to put it there yourself! Right-click on the ‘Today 12:01:32’ timestamp at the top of your post, retrieve the URL from the context menu and then paste the link into a new post in the Mathematics & Science’ forum.

Changed password, and logged in.
Great, thanks.
Good news! And you’re welcome.
jackneve wrote:However, does logging in make any difference to reading or posting?
You certainly can’t post when you’re not logged in, and I don’t think you can download attachments, but you should be able to read posted messages. Since the forum doesn’t know that it’s you, the next time you do log in you’ll have some ‘new’ messages that you’ve already read.
jackneve wrote:Sorry to seem dense, Alfred, but I can't find a "new password" link.
Using the link you gave in your last post just went back to the top level index/contents list page.
As I wrote yesterday:

In other words, you need to be logged out in order for the ‘new password’ link to work as designed. And when you’re logged out, the login page displays its own ‘new password’ link (which is where I got it from).
You need to enter your current password if you want to change it when you’re logged in, but if you’ve forgotten your password it’s assumed that you can’t log in. In the latter case, simply use the new password link and put your email address in the box to get instructions sent to you.
jackneve wrote:It's cheating - the loafer is part of the body of the man, not a separate entity. Anyway, thanks.
I agree that it’s cheating, but it definitely looks like a standard Lost Loafer. And I can’t see anything else that could be the ninth object.
jackneve wrote:By partially hidden, I meant it was not like the others, a separate entity, you had to distinguish it from its background.
I don’t recall ever seeing a K2 or O2 that isn’t part of the wrinkles or shading on skin or fabric.
jackneve wrote:BTW, While I am writing this on my desktop, I am also trying to look at this website (punster.me) on my laptop - It wants me to sign in - and I have forgotten the password.
Advice, please.....
jackneve wrote:Looks as if I'm OK now
Thanks for the update! I presume you either remembered the password or managed to retrieve it via the ‘new password’ link.

I presume you meant K2, but it doesn’t look very hidden to me!
I’ve found nine objects without too much difficulty. Apart from the K2, the Eyeball of Observation, and the Flying Saucer of Possibility, all of the objects — including a duplicated not-very-lost loafer — are on the floor or the furnishings.
